The European Parliament adopts the "returns" directive:

Brussels, Paris, June 18th 2008 - Going against the recommendations of all the Human Rights organisations and associations working with migrants and refugees, the European Parliament has adopted a text whose numerous measures are incompatible with member states' Human Rights obligations. The Members of the European Parliament have thus rejected by majority the amendments that aimed at correcting the measures that could potentially violate migrants' fundamental rights - European Union
