Côte d'Ivoire: access to drinking water for 500,000 people in Abidjan

Abidjan / Geneva (ICRC) – On Monday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) escorted two trucks from Côte d'Ivoire's water board to Anonkoua Kouté water-treatment plant in Abobo, a large neighbourhood in Abidjan, where violent clashes have erupted in recent weeks. The trucks brought 30 tonnes of lime, which is essential for treating water. The entire population of Abobo and of the neighbouring town of Anyama, which the company estimates totals over 500,000, depends directly on the plant for drinking water.
