NewsThe French daily Le Monde has published a joint opinion piece by Belarusian writer and Nobel literature laureate Svetlana Alexievich, Belarusian Association of Journalists president Andrei Bastunets and Christophe Deloire, the secretary-general of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), urging the international community to support the media and journalists who are the targets of a draconian crackdown in Belarus. During a debate on the state of siege in the National Assembly in Paris on 11 September 1848, Victor Hugo spoke out against closing newspapers.
