Submission by Human Rights Watch to the Committee on the Rights of the Child on Argentina

This submission focusses on the topics of girls’ right to access a safe abortion, accountability for past abuses against children, and the protection of students, teachers, and schools during time of armed conflict.   Access to Abortion (Articles 2, 6, 14, 16, 24, 37) Abortion is illegal in Argentina, except in cases of rape or when the life or health of the woman or girl is at risk. But even in such cases, women and girls are sometimes subject to criminal prosecution for seeking abortions, and often have trouble accessing reproductive health services, such as contraception and voluntary sterilization. …
