WHO Calls on Governments to Combat Global Diabetes Surge

The World Health Organization says diabetes is rising throughout the world and is calling on governments to take a comprehensive approach to reverse the trend. The WHO reports diabetes is four times more common than it was in 1980, and now afflicts 422 million adults. They represent 8.5 percent of the world’s adult population, an increase from 4.7 percent, or 108 million people, in 1980.
