Iselle Weakens on Hawaii Approach

The U.S. National Weather Service says Iselle weakened to a tropical storm Friday as it approached Hawaii. Iselle is the first of two rare, large storms alarming residents and tourists in the Pacific island state. It is has sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour. Authorities are also warning of heavy rains and storm surges. Public employees on the big island were sent home at midday Thursday and their offices will remain closed Friday.
