Naïm Kattan
novelist
Naïm Kattan is a Canadian novelist, essayist and critic of Iraqi Jewish origin. He was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He is the author of 40 books, translated into several languages. In 1983, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1990 he was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec. In 2002 he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur, for his lifelong contribution to international francophone culture. In 2004 he received the Prix Athanase-David. In 2007, Naim Kattan received the Hervé Deluen Prize, an award instituted by a decision of the French Academy to honour authors and institutions whose work contribute to the promotion of the French language. Mr Kattan lives in Montreal. His new novel Le réveil des distraits has just been published in Montreal (Hurtubise). He writes a regular column on Tolerance.ca.
