Based on the 2013 General Social Survey on Social Identity, conducted by Statistics Canada, fewer than half of Canadians expressed confidence in the media (40%) while three in four Canadians (76%) expressed confidence in the police, making it the institution with the highest level of public confidence. Next highest were the school system (61%), banks (59%), and the justice system and courts (57%). (Full Story)
In 2014, 117 of the 516 homicide victims, or 23%, were reported by police as Aboriginal. In contrast, Aboriginal people accounted for just 5% of the Canadian population. (Full Story)
The value of orders placed online by Canadians reached $18.9 billion in 2012, up 24% from 2010 when the survey was last conducted. More than half of Internet users (56%) ordered goods or services online in 2012, up from 51% in 2010. In 2012, 77% of Internet users did research on goods or services or window shopped. (Full Story)
New data from the National Household Survey (NHS) show that 11,782,700 adults aged 25 to 64 had postsecondary qualifications in 2011, representing almost two-thirds (64.1%) of the total population aged 25 to 64.  (Full Story)
Following little change the previous month, employment rose by 95,000 in May, with most of the increase in full-time work. This employment gain pushed the unemployment rate down 0.1 percentage points to 7.1%. (Full Story)
