The unrest that erupted in Urumqi on Sunday was the worst reported ethnic violence in China for decades as thousands of Muslim Uighurs, who have long harboured resentment under Chinese rule, took to the streets. Members of China's ethnic Han majority who were targeted in Sunday's riots fought back in Urumqi on Tuesday armed with makeshift weapons and vowing revenge against the Uighurs. (Full Story)
Russia announced Wednesday it was sending more ships to the Gulf of Aden to protect merchant ships from Somali pirates. A third task force from Russia's Pacific Fleet will arrive in late July in the Gulf of Aden to ensure security in the pirate-infested waters, a Navy official said on Wednesday. (Full Story)
