Le choléra est une maladie mortelle causée par la bactérie Vibrio cholerae, associée à de mauvaises conditions d'hygiène et à un accès limité à l'eau potable. Mais on l'a également trouvé dans des endroits apparemment propres, notamment des quartiers aisés, des hôtels et des restaurants aux pratiques d'hygiène médiocres, comme la manipulation d'aliments avec des mains sales et l'utilisation d'eau contaminée pour laver les ustensiles et préparer les aliments.
