25 Years After End of USSR, Europe Acknowledges Missed Opportunities

Twenty-five years ago, the Soviet Union's formal dissolution marked communism's collapse in Europe and a new era of democracy, Western-style liberalism and economic growth across the region once divided by the so-called Iron Curtain. But some experts say the pace of development in the region has been uneven, and continued disparity with the West has led to strains on the European Union and the rise of nationalist movements.
