Taliban Attack German Consulate in Northern Afghanistan

Taliban fighters attacked the German consulate in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif with bombs and bullets, triggering an intense gun battle, Afghan authorities said early Friday. A large truck bomb exploded outside the consulate just before midnight in the first phase of the attack, destroying nearby buildings and security barriers outside the diplomatic compound.
