Al-Qaida leader Baitullah Mehsud, blamed by the Pakistan government for killing Benazir Bhutto, denied any involvement in her death. There was no involvement in this attack, said spokesman Maulana Omar. ''It is against tribal tradition and custom to attack a woman,'' Omar said. (Full Story)
Pakistan's government says al-Qaida terrorists were behind the assassination of opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The Interior Ministry spokesman, Brigadier Javed Cheema, told reporters Friday the government had recorded intelligence intercepts during which al-Qaida leader Baitullah Mehsud congratulated terrorists for killing Ms. Bhutto. Islamabad - Aides to Pakistan's former Prime Minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto say she has been assassinated. Western and Pakistani news agencies said Ms. Bhutto died after sustaining injuries in a suicide attack at election rally near the capital, Islamabad. Ms. Bhutto had just addressed a gathering in a park in Rawalpindi, near the capital, Islamabad, when a blast went off. There were also reports of gunfire. (Full Story)
Ottawa - Friends and classmates of a 16-year-old girl who police say was murdered by her father in a Toronto suburb told local media Tuesday she was killed for not wearing a hijab. Police said in a statement they received an emergency call Monday evening from a man who said that he had just killed his daughter. (Full Story)

Hong Kong – As the one-year countdown celebrations for the 2008 Olympics came to a close in Beijing, eight Tibetan independence activists were deported to Hong Kong. Six of the activists had been arrested yesterday for unfurling a protest banner on the Great Wall of China. The two others were Lhadon Tethong and Paul Golding, who were detained by Chinese police in Beijing at approximately 2pm Beijing time today. Ms. Tethong, a Tibetan and Executive Director of Students for a Free Tibet, has been openly reporting for the past week on China's Olympics-related propaganda on her blog, www.BeijingWideOpen.org. Washington, D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives has approved legislation authorizing temporary changes to a U.S. electronic surveillance program to allow more flexibility to intercept communications overseas. VOA's Dan Robinson reports that approval by a vote of 227 to 183, following a Senate vote on Friday, sent the bill to President Bush. (Full Story)

New York - The United Nations Security Council has unanimously approved sending an expanded peacekeeping force to Sudan's Darfur region. The resolution follows eight months of negotiations over the make-up and mandate of the force. (Full Story)

President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown are emphasizing common ground following talks at Camp David - the U.S. presidential retreat outside Washington. The U.S. and British leaders appeared relaxed as they faced reporters after their talks. They stressed relations between the two countries are strong, despite the change at the top of the British government and strong public pressure in Britain to get out of Iraq. (Full Story)
