Dans les quatre articles ci-dessous, l’historien Sylvain Kahn (Sciences Po) présente les grandes étapes de l’évolution de l’Union européenne de sa naissance en 1957 jusqu’à nos jours.

La Communauté économique européenne naît du Traité de Rome en 1957. Elle se compose alors de six États : la France, l’Italie, la RFA, les Pays-Bas, la Belgique et le Luxembourg. Seize ans plus tard, elle s’ouvre à trois pays supplémentaires : le Royaume-Uni, l’Irlande et le Danemark. L’Europe des Six devient l’Europe des Neuf.
