UAE: Cancer-Stricken Prisoner Ill-Treated

(Beirut, February 26, 2019) – Emirati authorities are mistreating and denying adequate medical care to a terminally ill 42-year-old Emirati woman and denying her regular contact with her family, Human Rights Watch said today. Family members who have seen and spoken to her say that the authorities have her hands and feet shackled to her hospital bed at all times. The woman, Alia Abdel Nour, was convicted of terrorism in 2017 in a case marred by due process violations. After her arrest in 2015, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
