Nicaragua: Government Crackdown on Media, Activists

(New York) – The government of President Daniel Ortega has begun a sweeping crackdown against the free press and activists in Nicaragua, Human Rights Watch said today. The government has shut down nine respected nongovernmental organizations and raided several of their offices. Between November 29 and December 13, 2018, Congress stripped the nine groups of their legal registration, effectively forcing them to shut down.
