US Homeland Security Chief: Security Upgrades Expected to Protect Refugee Program

New "security upgrades" to the U.S. refugee admissions program will help block criminals and other suspicious persons from entering the United States from high-risk nations, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Monday. Nielsen, speaking at a public event in Washington, did not give further details. But she said the upgrades would be announced later Monday and would protect the refugee program from "being exploited by terrorists, criminals and fraudsters."
