As Russian and Syrian government forces resume air attacks on Aleppo, there are growing fears among Syrian rebels that they may lose the support of the United States once President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January. Across the Middle East, rival powers are trying to digest the implications of Trump’s election victory for the region – which remains beset by conflict in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
