Broken family ties

For 5 years Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier has been held captive deprived of contact with the outside world. A year after his capture, in June 2007, the Israeli authorities suspended family visits for detainees from Gaza. Under international humanitarian law, detainees in an armed conflict must be treated humanely and allowed contact with their families.
