Gambia's Defeated Leader Jammeh Departs; New President to Set Up Truth Commission

Gambia's defeated leader Yahya Jammeh, his wife, and mediator Guinea President Alpha Conde flew out of capital city Banjul on Saturday. They reportedly are headed for Guinea, where Jammeh is expected to live in exile. The authoritarian leader took power in a 1994 coup, and stepped down overnight in the face of pressure from West African armies that entered Gambia to force him to recognize that he lost the election in December to President Adama Barrow.
