US Central Bank Ponders Interest Rate Policy

Tuesday, top U.S. economic officials gathered to formally debate how best to balance the need to boost growth against worries that monetary stimulus could spark inflation or cause chaos on stock markets. VOA's Jim Randle reports many economists expect the U.S. Federal Reserve will announce Wednesday a decision to leave the key interest rate at its current low level and will cut their forecast for U.S. growth.
