Irreplaceable Art Objects Will Get Virtual Backup Copies

The recent destruction of ancient monuments in Syria reminded the world that irreplaceable objects of the world's heritage can be lost forever, either through strife or some natural catastrophe. Using affordable technology, scientists from Indiana University, in cooperation with art experts from Florence's famous Uffizi Gallery, have embarked on a 5-year project to create virtual "backup copies" of the museum's ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.
