In the 1990s, well into the computer era, personal computers were still unappealing beige boxes with clunky keys and a tangle of cables. In homes, they took up a lot of valuable space and collected a lot of dust, and most users were happy to turn them off once the job was done. A company founded in a home garage changed all that.
