South Korea Returns Remains of Chinese Soldiers

South Korea has returned to China the remains of 36 Chinese soldiers killed during the Korean War. China sided with North Korea in the 1950-1953 conflict.  In 2013 during a visit to Beijing, South Korean President Park Geun-hye offered to return the bodies of the Chinese war dead as a goodwill gesture.  Seoul has since handed over a total of 541 bodies to China, returning them each year just ahead of China's annual tomb-sweeping festival.
