Strong Earthquake Rattles New Zealand City

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook the New Zealand city of Christchurch Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake was centered 17 kilometers east of the city at a relatively shallow depth of 8 kilometers.  No tsunami warning was issued.
