Europe Markets Eke Out Gains, While China Drags Down Asia

After a tumultuous first week of the new year, European stocks were trading slightly higher Monday, while Asian markets tumbled as concerns about Beijing's economy grow. In Europe, markets switched frequently between gains and losses. About 1145 UT, London's benchmark FTSE 100 index was up 0.2 percent compared with Friday's close.
