Making a Mint

While apples, corn, and cranberries top the list of fall produce in the US, this is also the time to harvest gum, candy, and toothpaste—or at least the oil that makes them minty fresh.  That oil comes from the plants grown by the country's 280 mint farmers, including Randy Matthys.  Walking into one of his fields at Shady Lane Farms in Indiana is like unwrapping a giant piece of mint gum.
