US House Panel Approves Amtrak Budget Cut

One day after the worst Amtrak accident in nearly three decades, some members of Congress wanted to reduce the U.S. passenger rail service's budget. Republican members of the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to increase Amtrak's budget by more than $1 billion. In fact, the panel approved a cut in Amtrak's budget. The vote followed Tuesday night's derailment of an Amtrak train traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York City....
