Motive Unknown in Attack on US South Korea Ambassador

The motive behind an attack on U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert is unknown, the U.S. State Department said on Thursday. Lippert, 42, underwent two-and-a-half hours of surgery after he was slashed in the face and wrist by a knife-wielding Korean nationalist in Seoul about 7:40 a.m. local time Thursday (2240 GMT Wednesday). “We cannot speculate on a motive at this time,” the State Department statement said.
