UN: Number of Asylum Seekers Increases by 24 Percent

The U.N. refugee agency says the number of people seeking asylum in industrialized nations has risen by nearly a quarter, most of increase driven by wars in Iraq and Syria. The UNHCR says in a report released Friday that some 330,700 people sought refugee status during the first six months of this year, a 24-percent increase from the same period in 2013.
