Magnitude-6.2 Earthquake Hits Western Iran

A strong earthquake has struck western Iran, near the Iraqi border. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.2 quake hit 36 kilometers southeast of Abdanan early Monday, at a depth of just 10 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage in the sparsely populated area. The USGS also said three smaller quakes between magnitude 4.5 and 4.9 hit the same area a few hours later.
