Reporter Fights to Protect Source

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of the press, but the government and journalists sometimes clash over its meaning. Author and New York Times reporter James Risen has refused to reveal a source about a CIA operation in Iran in his 2006 book State of War despite pressure from the government. On Thursday, a petition supporting Risen was delivered to the Department of Justice in Washington. VOA’s Deborah Block was there.
