Hong Kong: Mass arrests a disturbing sign for peaceful protest

02 July 2014 The Hong Kong authorities must release all those detained solely for peacefully protesting in pro-democracy demonstrations, said Amnesty International, after more than 500 people were arrested by police on Wednesday.Police removed hundreds of peaceful demonstrators from the city’s business district in the early hours of Wednesday morning. “This was not an illegal assembly; it was a peaceful and legitimate protest under international law.
