Former Nixon Aide James Schlesinger Dies

Former U.S. Cabinet member James R. Schlesinger has died at the age of 85 from complications of pneumonia. Schlesinger was appointed director of the CIA in 1973 by former president Richard M. Nixon, then was named defense secretary a few months later, serving until 1975.  He later was put in charge of the newly formed Department of Energy in 1979 (until 1979) by former president Jimmy Carter.
