UN Members Elect 5 Countries to Security Council

Five countries have won two-year terms on the U.N. Security Council, including two potentially controversial countries. U.N. General Assembly President John Ashe announced the winners of the secret ballot vote. “Chad, Chile, Lithuania, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia are elected members of the Security Council for a two-year term beginning on 1 January 2014,” he said.
