Madagascar: Plague-free prisons

In prisons where rats abound, the ICRC helps the authorities and prisoners to prevent the risk of a major plague epidemic. The arrival every year of hot and humid weather in October marks the start of the plague season in Madagascar. Fleas multiply and the risk of transmission increases. Insecticide is used against the fleas and the rats that carry them are caught.
