Reporters Without Borders is relieved to learn that the Coptic Christian blogger Albert Saber Ayyad was finally released on bail on 17 December pending the outcome of his appeal against his conviction on a charge of “denigrating religions” (see below). Sentenced on 12 December to three years in prison, Ayyad was held illegally for several days after paying paying 1,000 Egyptian pounds (123 euros) in bail.
