Exactly 100 years ago, the Florence Nightingale Medal was instituted by the ICRC, the highest international distinction that can be awarded to a nurse. On the occasion of International Nurses Day (12 May), the ICRC looks at the extraordinary challenges facing nurses in today's armed conflicts.
