Crew of illegal fishing vessel in safety

The 9 Indian and Bangladeshi crew of illegal fishing vessel FV AL HILAL, which were held in Puntland, have finally been really freed and left Somalia on a tugboat. They are in safety now and could celebrate Christmas in freedom.

Coastal defenders had captured the illegal fishing vessel and then handed the crew to local elders after the vessel was grounded.
The elders then handed the crew to local authorities of the Puntland government, where a tug of war over the real freeing of the 9 men ensued.

Local observers believe hidden fisheries deals played a role in the delayed release of this crew.
