German owned, Antigua&Barbuda-flagged containership MV DELMAS NACALA was reportedly attacked over a time of 3 hours on Thursday morning from 08h45 LT onwards at position 05°54'S-043°45'E - around 300nm east-south-east of Mombasa in Kenya.

The report from sources close to the shipowner speak of an attack by armed men in two skiffs with rocket propelled granades (RPGs), a machine gun and automatic assault rifles. Fortunately the attack could be outrun, no crew got injured and the vessel proceeds with only slight damage to Mombasa.

In the vicinity ot the attack a possible mothership with a green hull was spotted.

EU NAVFOR confirmed the distress call, but would not confirm any details of an actual attack, which is not unusual since Operation Atalanta does not care much about merchant vessels, which are not registered with the naval command.
