Nearly a month after large-scale protests were carried out by herders and students in Southern (Inner) Mongolia, another protest erupted in eastern Southern Mongolia's Bairin Left Banner ("ba lin zuo qi" in Chinese) in Ulaanhad ("chi feng shi" in Chinese) Municipality. (Full Story)
Many Mongolians have been arrested, detained and beaten during and after the large-scale region-wide protest sparked by the brutal killing of a Mongolian herder named Mergen in Southern (Inner) Mongolia’s Shiliin-gol League. (Full Story)
In response to the week-long widespread protests by Mongolians in Southern (Inner) Mongolia, Chinese authorities declared martial law last week in major cities of the region including the capital Hohhot, eastern cities of Shiliin-hot, Ulaanhad and Tongliao, and western city of Dongsheng. Fearing that mass protests might spread across the region and possibly across China, Chinese authorities declared that the region is “in a war-like state” (see attached “Explanation of Reason of Sealing off Schools”). Despite the heavy presence of riot police and paramilitary forces in Hohhot, capital city of Southern (Inner) Mongolia, on May 31, 2011
(Tuesday) hundreds of Mongolian students and residents marched on streets near No.18 High School heading toward City Hall. The protesters were blocked by paramilitary forces and a standoff ensued for nearly two hours before the marchers were dispersed. (Full Story)

On the morning of May 30, 2011, around 11:00 AM, despite the Chinese authorities’ declaration of martial law and deployment of riot police and paramilitary forces in major cities of Southern (Inner) Mongolia, hundreds of Mongolians took to the streets of Hohhot, regional capital, to demand the rights of Mongolians and the release of detainees.

Around midnight of May 10, 2011, Mergen, a Mongolian herder, lost his young life under the wheels of a Chinese coal company’s long hauler truck on the grasslands of Southern Mongolia. The killing was both brutal and intentional. The Chinese drivers, at the time of carrying out their bloody act, reportedly shouted: “killing a Mongol at most will cost us 400,000 RMB and our boss has plenty of it”. (Full Story)

1. More than 300 riot police were clashed with hundreds of Mongolian herders and students on May 27; many beaten up;

2. All Mongolian students of the Banner Middle School were confined in the classrooms of the school building top floor preventing them from joining any gathering...

Bristol, England - There are many reasons to be glum if you are a Muslim living in Britain today. For starters, a 2010 YouGov poll revealed that the overwhelming majority of respondents in Britain believe that Islam is synonymous with both extremism and the repression of women.
