Sequestration in the US budget is a process of across-the-board spending cuts, mandated by the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 (Public Law 99-177). In the separate legislation of the Budget Control Act of 2011 (Public Law 112-125), one of the provisions states that failure by Congress to reduce the budget by $1.2 trillion would result in automatic spending reductions in Fiscal Years (FY) 2013-2021. Cutting off funds run counter to Israel’s interests. Israel has no desire to control some two million Palestinians again, run their day-to-day affairs, see to their education, healthcare, and welfare needs. . Legally and morally Israel has obligations to the Palestinian population in the West Bank by virtue of controlling it. WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Israeli plans for new settlements near East Jerusalem do not help efforts to bring about a two-state solution to the Palestinian crisis. Clinton also called on Egypt to do more to stop rocket smuggling into Gaza. (Full Story)
