Les films de Pedro Almodóvar ont toujours eu des connotations sociales et politiques, mais jamais aussi explicitement que dans son nouvel opus, « Madres parallelas » (sortie prévue en France le 1^er décembre 2021). Sa protagoniste, Janis, interprétée par Pénélope Cruz, est l’arrière-petite-fille de victimes de la guerre civile et se bat pour l’ouverture des tombes afin de découvrir si ses proches font partie des anonymes enterrés dans des fosses communes.
