Latvia urged to address public broadcaster’s problems

NewsReporters Without Borders (RSF) calls for a swift solution to the disturbing problems and internal conflicts at Latvia’s public radio service, which its journalists blamed on inadequate funding and their mistrust of the board of governors in a letter published on 10 July. State funding for the public media in Latvia is significantly lower than in its two Baltic neighbours, Estonia and Lithuania, representing only 0.1% of GDP as against a European average of 0.17%.
