Sisification of the Media – a Hostile Takeover

NewsReporters Without Borders launches the Media Ownership Monitor Egypt. As a dominant player in the whole region, the Egyptian media industry has always suffered from a heavy legacy of state control, developed at the discretion of politics and economy. Under strongman President al-Sisi, the situation is deteriorating faster and faster as the whole media landscape is being restructured through systematic transfers of property, including an involvement of the security and intelligence apparatus. As a result it is now left almost fully aligned with the current regime.
