RSF and Fundamedios welcome US asylum ruling in favor of Cuban journalist Serafin Moran Santiago

NewsReporters Without Borders (RSF) and press freedom organization Fundamedios USA are elated that Cuban journalist Serafín Moran Santiago was granted political asylum in the United States on October 11. But Moran, who had been held by US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in South Texas Detention Complex since April, should never have been detained in the first place. A judge ruled in favor of Moran’s request for asylum on October 11 after a hearing that spanned the length of more than four hours.
