The 2016 U.S. presidential election, with its unusually harsh rhetoric, has made teaching civics harder, instructors such as Javaughn Perkins say. VOA reporter Steve Baragona visits his classroom in the Washington suburb of Alexandria, Virginia, to find out what lessons Perkins’ students are drawing from the race.
