"Material Girl" plays LA concert

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EDIT CONTAINS 4:3 MATERIAL At a time when the careers of most pop stars are measured in weeks, not years, it's good to know that the "Material Girl" can still bring it. Madonna proved that again on Wednesday night (October 10) when the singer's MDNA tour made the first of a two-night stop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Prior to the concert, legions of Madonna fans, of all shapes, sizes and ages, lined up outside Staples to sing the praises of an entertainer who remains relevant some 30 years after practically inventing the art of the music video. The singer recently made headlines after throwing her support behind the anti-Kremlin Russian punk band, "Pussy Riot," whose members were jailed after taking part in a political protest. A move that earned the respect of long time fan Terry Duke of Los Angeles. SOUNDBITE Madonna fan Terry Duke, saying (English): "I thought it was excellent, with Russia and the anti-gay stuff going on. It is speaking out for human rights and people's freedoms." Still, on this night, a Madonna concert these days is like a trip in a time machine that still seems relevant and fun.
