Muslims in Pakistan, Bangladesh rally against anti-Islam film

Thousands march through the streets of Pakistan's largest city, Karachi, to protest against an anti-Islam film made in the US that mocks the Prophet Mohammad. Several Islamic groups took part in the demonstration, with mostly white-clad protestors carrying banners and chanting slogans. While there was some anti-American sentiment, protest leaders stressed the march was to send a message of peace. This cleric said the protesters were proving that violence and killing were not necessary to deliver their message. Thousands also gathered in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Saturday to denounce the film. Demonstrators here tried to march on the US embassy but were stopped by security forces. Anger against the crudely made 13-minute film, which first came to public attention more than two weeks ago, remains strong with some protesters like this man calling for a death sentence for the filmmaker. For many Muslims, any depiction of the Prophet is blasphemous and the film has drawn wide-spread and angry protests around the Muslim world.
