NY security boost after 'threat'

PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL The nature of the threat that's led to even tighter security in New York City isn't clear. U.S. officials say a hunt is underway for up to three suspects over unconfirmed terrorism threats against New York city and Washington D.C. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the threat, while uncorroborated, is credible. SOUNDBITE: NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg saying (English): "We do live in a world where we must take these threats seriously and we certainly will. The NYPD is deploying additional resources around the city and taking other steps to keep our city safe, some of which you may notice and some of which you will not notice. But there is no reason for any of the rest of us to change anything in our daily routines." President Barack Obama on Thursday ordered a redoubling of counter-terrorism efforts in the face of the threat ahead of the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The White House said Obama had been briefed on specific threat information on Thursday morning. One national security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said experts believed the threat would ultimately not check out. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security cautioned that there were always threat reports around important dates like the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The U.S. government has already tightened up security ahead of the tenth anniversary of the attacks on Sunday. Paul Chapman, Reuters
